Today, we're thrilled to announce that AstroLurch is officially live and open to all players. After months of development, testing, and countless cups of coffee, the galaxy is ready for you to explore.
AstroLurch is a free browser-based space strategy game where you mine resources, research technologies, build powerful fleets, and conquer a galaxy of over 67,000 star systems — all from your web browser. No downloads. No installs. No app store. Just point your browser at the game and start building your empire.
If you've ever sunk hours into a browser-based strategy game — checking your mines before school, planning fleet attacks during lunch, coordinating with your alliance at night — you'll feel right at home. If you haven't — welcome to a genre where strategy, patience, and cunning matter more than reflexes.
What Is AstroLurch?
At its core, AstroLurch is a persistent-world space strategy MMO. That means the game runs 24/7 — your mines keep producing, your research keeps ticking, and your empire keeps growing even while you sleep.
Here's the gameplay loop in a nutshell:
- Mine resources — Metal, Silicates, and Helium-3 fuel everything you do
- Build structures — Upgrade mines, construct shipyards, establish research labs
- Research technologies — Unlock 31 technologies across military, economy, and intelligence branches
- Build ships — Choose from 14 ship types, from nimble Light Fighters to the devastating Death Star
- Launch missions — Attack enemies, transport resources, spy on rivals, colonize new planets, or explore the unknown
- Expand your empire — Colonize new worlds, build moons, form alliances, and climb the rankings
It's the kind of game you check in on a few times a day — upgrade a building before work, send a fleet during lunch, review your spy reports in the evening. Your empire is always growing, always evolving.
A Galaxy Worth Exploring
The universe of AstroLurch is massive:
- 9 galaxies, each containing 499 star systems
- Each system has 15 planet positions
- That's 67,365 colonizable locations waiting to be claimed
Navigate it all through our visual Galaxy Map — a color-coded star-field overview showing which systems are populated, which are controlled by NPC factions, and which are wide-open frontier waiting for a brave commander.
Zoom into any system to see individual planet positions, discover who your neighbors are, and plan your next move. Will you settle in a quiet corner and build in peace? Or plant your flag right next to a rival and challenge them for dominance?
Combat That Unfolds, Not Just Resolves
One of the things we're most proud of is our continuous tick-based combat system. Unlike many strategy games where you click "attack" and instantly get a result, combat in AstroLurch plays out round by round.
Here's how it works:
- Your fleet arrives at the target planet and combat begins
- Each game tick, one round of fire is exchanged between attacker and defender
- Ships take damage that persists between rounds — a damaged cruiser stays damaged
- Every shot has a ±15% luck factor, so identical fleets can produce different outcomes
- The attacker can retreat at any time, saving their surviving ships
- Combat continues until one side is completely destroyed
This means battles have tension. You can watch them unfold. You can make the tactical decision to retreat if things go south. And the outcome is never 100% predetermined — luck and fleet composition both matter.
After combat, debris fields form from the wreckage. Send Recyclers to harvest the remains. And if the debris is large enough, there's a chance a Moon forms — a special strategic asset with exclusive buildings like the Sensor Phalanx, FTL Gate, and espionage-proof resource storage.
14 Ships, Infinite Strategies
Your fleet is your sword and your shield. AstroLurch features 14 distinct ship types, each with a unique role:
| Category | Ships | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo | Small Cargo, Large Cargo | Transport resources between planets |
| Combat | Light Fighter, Heavy Fighter, Cruiser, Battleship, Bomber, Destroyer, Battlecruiser, Death Star | Wage war across the galaxy |
| Utility | Colony Ship, Recycler, Espionage Probe, Solar Satellite | Expand, salvage, spy, and power your empire |
The Rapid Fire system adds another layer of strategy: certain ships get bonus attacks against specific targets. Cruisers shred Light Fighters. Bombers tear through defences. Death Stars dominate everything — but they're incredibly expensive to build and slow to move.
Choosing the right fleet composition for the right mission is what separates good commanders from great ones.
31 Technologies to Master
Your Research Lab is where you unlock the future of your empire. AstroLurch has 31 technologies organized across several branches:
- Drive Technologies — Make your fleets faster (Combustion, Impulse, Hyperspace drives)
- Military Technologies — Boost weapons, shields, and armour for your ships
- Economy Technologies — Increase resource production with Laser, Ion, Cryogenic, and Plasma tech
- Intelligence Technologies — Improve espionage gathering and deflection
- Unlock Technologies — Gate access to advanced buildings like the Nanite Factory and Terraformer
- Lunar Technologies — Enable moon-exclusive buildings like the FTL Gate
Technologies have prerequisite chains, so you'll need to plan your research path carefully. Rush military tech to fight early? Focus on economy to outproduce everyone? Invest in espionage to always know what your neighbors are up to? The choice is yours.
Alliances, Diplomacy, and Social Play
No empire is an island. AstroLurch features a full alliance system where you can:
- Create or join an alliance with up to 50 members
- Coordinate attacks and defence strategies through alliance chat and an internal forum
- Declare wars, peace treaties, and non-aggression pacts
- Track your alliance's standing on the alliance rankings
- Recruit new members directly from the galaxy map
There's also a global chat, private messaging, buddy system, and battle replay sharing — so you can show off your greatest victories to the entire community.
Missions, NPC Factions, and Exploration
The galaxy isn't just other players. Four NPC factions populate the universe:
- ⚔️ Pirate Syndicate — Hostile raiders lurking in the void
- 🚚 Galactic Traders — Neutral contacts looking for resource deliveries
- 🔍 Shadow Network — Secretive operatives with intel needs
- 🔧 Rebel Remnants — Scattered forces in need of salvage and support
Each faction offers dynamic missions that reward you with Lurchium — the game's premium currency. Missions are hidden by default and must be discovered by sending exploring fleets to scan nearby systems. Once discovered, you can accept combat, transport, espionage, salvage, or blockade missions.
And if you're feeling adventurous, send a fleet on an Expedition into deep space. You might find resources, abandoned ships, or even Lurchium. Or you might encounter hostile aliens. Fortune favors the bold.
A Dynamic Economy
Resources aren't just for building — they're for trading. The Resource Marketplace lets you buy and sell Metal, Silicates, and Helium-3 at dynamic prices that fluctuate with supply and demand.
Big trades move prices. Prices naturally decay back to baseline over time. There's a transaction fee and a delivery delay, making market timing a skill in itself. Watch the 7-day price charts, spot trends, and profit.
Fair Play — Not Pay-to-Win
Let's address this directly: AstroLurch is not pay-to-win.
Our premium currency, Lurchium, buys cosmetic items only — badges, profile themes, name colors, avatar frames, and planet skins. None of these affect gameplay. You can also hire Premium Officers for temporary convenience boosts (extra fleet slots, faster research, bonus production), but they don't give decisive competitive advantages.
And here's the thing — you can earn Lurchium for free:
- Complete NPC faction missions
- Find it during expeditions
- Invite friends with the referral system (you get 500 LU, they get 200 LU)
- Verify your email
We believe your brain should be your strongest weapon, not your wallet.
Play Anywhere, Anytime
AstroLurch is designed to work on any device with a modern web browser:

- 📱 Mobile — Fully responsive design optimized for touch
- 📲 PWA — Install on your home screen for an app-like experience
No downloads. No updates to install. No app store approvals. Just open your browser and play.
